First Pakistani Female Cricket Umpire
Early Life
Humaira fell in love with sports at a young age. She spent most of her time riding bikes and flying kites as a kid. She did her intermediate and graduation from Government College for Women in Baghbanpura, Lahore.
Career
She participated in a women’s hockey tournament also in Hyderabad during her college days. There she won the title of ‘best player.’ During Zia Ul Haq regime, she played for Pakistan’s Railway Women Hockey Team. Her mother has stood by her through her battle.
Her elder brother made her do master’s in physical education from Punjab University, over there she came out as a topper in university. Later, she did bachelor’s in education from Allama Iqbal Open University.
Recognition
Humaira served as sports administrator in Lahore Garrison University for 28 years. Humaira, who had attended the umpire courses before taking the exam, was one of the four women who cleared it.
She was the only one from her class to clear both the Pakistan Cricket Board Panel’s and SSC exams. The panel announced its women’s wing in the year 2001. She officially works as an umpire at various levels, and umpired matches.
She is serving as the sports director Lahore Garrison University and is pursuing a PhD in sport sciences. With the aid of PCB, Pakistan defeated West Indies for the first time in an one-day International series and South Africa.
